Meadowridge entered 10 Teams into the Singles/Men’s and Ladies League this season.
That is 2 teams more than last season and we were delighted to field another Singles Team in both the Men’s and Ladies Divisions. This shows the keenness and the depth which has been developed at Meadowridge and it bodes us well for the future.
We had several teams which had brilliant seasons last year earning them promotion and that meant that this year we really had our work cut out to keep the teams in the new leagues which they now found themselves in.
Men’s Singles A – They were 1 of the several teams which were promoted last year, and it meant they were now in the big leagues (1st league) for the first time in a long time. They knew it was going to be a hard slog to stay in 1st league but managed to finish a respectable 6th and consolidate their position in 1st league with a big win on the final day of the season. A brilliant performance from Ronan Gorton who managed to go the entire season without losing a singles match. It was a brilliant achievement and helped keep the team up in 1st league.
Men’s Singles B – A few years back we needed another singles side due to the number of men keen to play singles league but even though the team was very strong they had to start in the lowly 7th league. They have been promoted every year since and this year was no different as they dominated 5th league. They had already won the league before the last match was even played. They will be playing in 4th league next season and will be keen to continue their promotion trend.
Men’s Singles C – As mentioned above a few years back we entered a 2nd singles side and now this season we had enough men to enter a C team and just like their B team counterparts they dominated their league and will be playing in 7th league next season. It was a young team, and we hope the youngsters can drive that team further up the leagues in the years to come!
Men’s Doubles A – The Men’s A doubles had another good season in 2nd league which is a very tough league to compete in. They were once again very competitive but unfortunately missed out on promotion and finished a very respectable 4th spot. This means they will go again in 2nd league next season.
Men’s Doubles B – The Men’s B Doubles played in 4th league and were competitive but had to settle for 4th spot. A good result in a league with many good sides.
Ladies Singles A – The ladies Singles A side was the talk of the town after their amazing season last year which meant they were representing Meadowridge in Premier League once again. A place where Meadowridge has not been in many, many years. It was always going to be a tough task to stay in premier league as the step up from 1st league is huge, but our ladies impressed everyone and stood strong throughout the league season. They placed 7th out of 8 teams which means they will move back down to 1st league next season. Despite this we are very proud of our Ladies!!
Ladies Singles B – A few years back we could barely fill 1 ladies’ singles side and now this season we entered a 2nd singles side. They impressed us week in, and week out and so nearly earned themselves promotion but unfortunately, they had to settle for a very respectable 3rd place – Well done ladies. We will go again next season and fight for promotion once again.
Ladies Doubles A – The Ladies A Doubles made their way back to 1st league where they belong after earning promotion last season. They proved why they belong by finishing in 5th spot this season and retaining their spot in 1st league for next season. We are very proud of our ladies!
Ladies Doubles B – Our ladies B Doubles was yet another team who moved up after their amazing performance last season. This season they thought it may be tough to stay in 2nd league, but it was not the case for our strong B doubles side as they finished 3rd and nearly was promoted again. They will remain in 2nd league for next season. Well done, Ladies!
Ladies Doubles C – It was the season for our ladies’ doubles sides last season as all 3 were playing in higher leagues than last season as they were all promoted last year. And all 3 performed amazingly in their new respective leagues. Our Ladies C doubles just as their B team counterparts so nearly earned themselves another promotion but had to settle for finishing 3rd. This means they will remain in 3rd league for next season.
Meadowridge managed to have an astounding 8 out of 10 teams represented at the End of League Shootouts. This is the end of League Championships for the Top 4 Teams in each league.
Congratulations go to the Ladies Doubles B, Men’s Singles B and Men’s Singles C Teams who all won the Championship Shootouts.
What an awesome day for MTC!
